Personal background: Rangina Kargar, daughter of Sayed Omar, was born in 1985 in Saighan district of Bamyan province. She married into the Kargar family, and has one son. Her husband also works in parliament, as a member of the secretariat for the Wolesi Jirga. Kargar is interested in reading. Her first language is Dari and she can also speak Uzbek and English.

Education: Kargar completed her secondary school education at Sitara High School, Mazar-I Sharif and earned her bachelor’s degree from Balkh University in Economics in 2007.

Civil society/NGO connections: Kargar worked in 2010 for the NGO Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance (CHA). She has been involved in literacy programs for rural women in Andkhoi district and has worked to promote women’s rights.33

Previous occupation: Kargar worked as a school teacher before being elected to parliament. She also worked at the Afghanistan International Bank in 2010.
