Personal background: Haji Hazrat Ali is the son of Mullah Mohammad Amir. Born in 1964, he grew up in the mountain village of Kushmoon in Char Bagh district, Laghman province. He is a well-known commander in Nangarhar and the leader of the Pashaee people. He is married with five sons and eight daughters. Ali is interested in reading. His first language is Pashaee, and he speaks Pashto, Dari and Urdu as well.

Education: Ali completed his basic education in Laghman province. He completed his secondary education in Nangarhar province.

Previous occupation: Following his education, Ali commanded a small military group during the Soviet war. After some years he became a powerful military commander and an important leader in the Pashaee community. He worked as a commander of Nangarhar Airbase and Nangarhar Army Corps. Later, he became a police chief in his home province of Nangarhar.

2005 Parliament: Ali was elected to parliament in 2005 with 12,604 votes. He served on the Legislative Affairs commission during this term.
