Personal background: Farydoon Momand was born in 1968 in Goshta village, Goshta district, Nangarhar province. He is married with six sons and one daughter. His interests include reading and sports. Momand speaks Pashto and Dari.

Education: Momand graduated from Khoshal Khan High School in Jalalabad in 1985. He has also participated in courses and seminars conducted by the Ministry of Defense.

Previous occupation: Momand was a tribal leader who fought against the Taliban in his area during the Taliban regime. From 1985-1987, he commanded the 818th border platoon of the Afghan National Army (ANA). From 1987-1989, he served as deputy commander of the 563rd brigade of the ANA and from 1989-1990, as commander of the 568 battalion of the ANA. From 2001-2004, he acted as head of the Department for Tribes and Frontiers in Nangarhar province.

2005 Parliament: Momand was elected to parliament in 2005 with 6,819 votes. He served on the Defense and Territorial Affairs commission during this term.
