Personal background: Maulawi Ahmadullah Mujahid (Mowahed), son of Alhaj Mia Gul, was born in 1971 in the Waygal district of Nuristan province. He is married and has four sons and three daughters. He is interested in reciting the Holy Quran. Mujahid speaks Nuristani and also Dari, Pashto, Urdu, Arabic and English.

Education: Mujahid completed his primary education in his village and his secondary education at Ibn-e Sina High School in Peshawar. He received his bachelor’s degree in Islamic Education from Jamiat Ul-Islamia University in Pakistan in 1995.

Civil society/NGO connections: Mujahid is a tribal elder and deputy chair of the Nuristani People's Council.

Previous occupation: From 1996 to 1998, Mujahid taught at the Ibn-e Sina High School. From 1998 to 1999, he supervised with the Beljim Educational Organization in Nuristan. He then joined a Swedish NGO working in Nuristan through 2001, at which point he became the education manager in Nuristan for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) until 2004. He became an international trainer with the Mission d’Aide au Développement des Economies Rurales (MADERA) in 2004-05; following this, Mujahid worked with the Afghan-German Education Organization from 2006-2008. He is the chair of the Mahir Construction Company, which has projects across Nuristan province.

2005 Parliament: Mujahid ran unsuccessfully for parliament in 2005, winning 10,399 votes and coming in second in the province.
