Personal background: Haji Mualim Mirwali (Mir Wali Khan) was born in 1955 in Grishk (Gereshk) district, Helmand province. He is married with four sons and seven daughters. His interests include reading, and he speaks Pashto and Dari.

Education: Mirwali earned his fourteenth class certificate from the Teacher Training Institute in Grishk district, Helmand province.

Previous occupation: Mirwali was a well-known jihadi commander and Khan in Helmand province, with particular influence in Grishk district. He was a high school teacher in Helmand and served as the head of the Information and Culture Department in Helmand.

2005 Parliament: Mirwali was elected to the 2005 parliament with 8,121 votes. During this term, he served on the Internal Affairs commission.

Other information: Mirwali has been known to be affiliated with Hezb-e-Islami Afghanistan, but is currently without affiliation. He was disqualified as a result of Electoral Complaints Commission investigations. He later replaced Massud Noorzai as an MP for Helmand province in August 2011.
